Монитор нь компьютер дэх мэдээлэл, текст, дүрс, зургийг дэлгэцэнд харуулдаг тусдаа эд анги юм. өөрөөр хэлбэл уян болоод хатуу диск доторх мэдээллүүд, программ хангамжууд, тэдгээртэй ажиллах, компьютерийн гараас оруулах тэмдэгтүүд бүгд энэ л төхөөрөмжийн дэлгэц дээр харагддаг билээ.

Мөн зөөврийн компьютерийн хувьд монитор гэхээсээ display буюу дэлгэц гэж нэрлэдэг. Яагаад гэвэл зөөврийн компьютерийн дэлгэц нь салангид биш их биетэйгээ цуг байдаг. Хэрэв дэлгэц (display) нь эвдэрчихвэл Desktop буюу ширээний компьютерийн мониторт залгаад ажиллаж болдог.
Дээрхээс үзэхэд ялгаатай гэдэг нь харагдаж байна. Гэвч хүмүүс дэлгэцийг монитор, display хоёрын аль алинаар нь дууддаг.

Мониторын ялгаа гэвэл тэр нь дотроо хэдэн инчийн ямар төрлийн дисплейтэй гэдгээр тодорхойлогддог. Харин дисплейг доорх үзүүлэлтүүдээр тодорхойлно.
